Mindfulness Training Q&A
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a form of meditation that helps you focus on how you’re feeling at that moment without interpretation or judgment.
Life is stressful and hectic and requires a lot of planning and problem-solving. These activities may have you constantly thinking about the past or the future, which may cause negative thoughts and feelings that lead to anxiety or depression.
Mindfulness helps you learn how to focus on what’s happening in the present, which may help redirect your thinking to improve how you feel and behave.
Strategies for Success is a psychiatric clinic that offers many services to help you achieve your health and wellness goals, including mindfulness training.
What is mindfulness training?
Mindfulness training is one of the group therapy services available at Strategies for Success. Though you may be familiar with mindfulness and meditation, you may not know how to put them into practice.
Mindfulness training at Strategies for Success teaches you how to practice mindful meditation. It also provides life-changing tips and techniques that help you maintain mindfulness even when you’re in the midst of a difficult situation.
How does mindfulness training work?
Mindfulness training at Strategies for Success is a form of group therapy. During therapy, a licensed and experienced clinical mental health therapist helps you become more mindful and aware through guided meditation.
With guided meditation, you sit in a comfortable position and focus on your breathing. Your therapist helps you tune into the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body.
While you meditate, random thoughts may enter your mind. Instead of pushing those thoughts away, you make a note of these thoughts without interpretation and continue to focus on your breathing.
Initially, your therapist may limit your mindfulness training to 5-10 minutes, working up to a 30-minute session. Your therapist encourages you to continue to practice mindful meditation at home between your group sessions.
Am I a candidate for mindfulness training?
Almost everyone is a candidate for mindfulness training. If you’re having a hard time managing your stress and you’re searching for a technique to help you gain control over it and your life, then mindfulness training may be good for you.
